Funding Justice for All
Equal justice under the law is a right, not a privilege. The challenges many New Mexicans face can be addressed through the legal system. With access to justice, families remain secure in their homes, women gain safety from physical and economic abuse, seniors receive life-saving benefits, and children access critical healthcare services. However, systemic inequities lead to barriers to access, denying justice for many New Mexicans. Your contributions help Equal Access to Justice fund organizations that are providing free, essential civil legal services and advocacy for New Mexicans right now - when the need increases daily due to the current health and economic crises. |
Where the Money Goes
Equal Access to Justice provides unrestricted, noncompetitive funds to New Mexico civil legal aid organizations. These funds grant our partners critical flexibility to cover costs excluded by other funding sources, to meet unanticipated needs in the community, or to accept opportunities that arise mid-year. Our partners include New Mexico Legal Aid, New Mexico Center on Law & Poverty, and DNA-People’s Legal Services. Their collective work strives to meet the critical legal needs of New Mexicans, ranging from providing legal information, to direct representation, to systemic advocacy. These organizations depend on funds from EAJ to carry out their missions so critical to helping protect New Mexicans' incomes, health, education, families, and physical safety. |
Impact of Legal Aid & Advocacy
Like you, we believe New Mexico is strengthened when everyone has access to the justice system. When New Mexicans cannot afford legal help or systems are failing them, New Mexico Legal Aid, the New Mexico Center on Law & Poverty, and DNA-People's Legal Services step in. By providing essential legal information, representation, and advocacy, more families stay in their homes, more workers receive the pay they've earned, more children access the education they deserve, more people are protected from their abusers, and more seniors receive much-needed healthcare. Thank You To Our Supporters
Each year, hundreds of defenders of justice -- law firms, solo practitioners, attorneys, and other concerned New Mexicans -- give generously to help families secure safe living environments, seniors and veterans access medical benefits, survivors escape abusive and violent relationships, and the hard-working person amplify their voice for equal rights and protections.
For more than 30 years, Rodey Law and Modrall Sperling have invested close to a million dollars in financial support for civil legal aid. The law firm of Feferman, Warren & Mattison, through directing cy pres settlement funds to Equal Access to Justice, has also been one of our most loyal and significant supporters. We are deeply grateful.
